Hitting the links for the Rotary Club of Fox Chapel Area’s Charity Golf Classic could be a lifesaving proposition this year, members said.

Proceeds benefit Foxwall Emergency Medical Services, which responds to more than 1,000 calls a year in Aspinwall, Fox Chapel and the surrounding communities.

Registration is open for the event, scheduled Sept. 18 at Hillcrest Country Club in Lower Burrell.

“This is not only our single most-important fundraising effort of the year, but also a fun event for our 100-plus members,” Rotary Club President Bob Trimble said.

“We have a great event committee, and just about everyone in our club participates in some way. Then we get to award grants to a number of very worthy organizations in our area.”

Foxwall operates three ambulances and a life-support squad. Chief Anthony Cuda said his team is grateful for help from the Rotary.

Proceeds will be used to purchase a patient ventilator.

“We are excited to provide this advanced lifesaving technology to our patients,” he said.

The existing equipment is out of date.

“We are so grateful that the Rotary has generously chosen to support our mission,” Cuda said.

The outing is open to all area golfers, but spots are limited and typically sell out.

The cost is $160 for individual golfers or $640 for a foursome. The price includes lunch, 18 holes of golf, a cart, on-course beverages and skill prizes.

Jim Michaels, the event co-chair, is hoping to raise enough money to write Foxwall a $15,000 check.

Several other civic and charitable groups will benefit from the event as well, Michaels said. Golf outings have raised $35,000 in past years.

Recent beneficiaries have included the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Fox Families Care, Cooper-Siegel Library, Circles of Sharpsburg, Aspinwall Meals on Wheels, Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania and Fox Chapel Area High School Student Support Services.

There is a lunch-only option for $30, where people can access raffles and auctions valued at thousands of dollars, event co-chair Harrison Lauer said.

The Fox Chapel Area Rotary meets at 11:45 a.m. most Wednesdays at locations throughout the school district. Guests and potential members are welcome, Trimble said.
