Pirates farm report for May 20, 2023: Henry Davis belts 10th homer for Altoona

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 19-23) dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Iowa (Cubs), managing a total of one run. In the opener, a 2-1 loss, RHP Vince Velasquez (0.00), rehabbing an elbow injury, started and went 4.2 innings, allowing four hits and one walk, striking out two. LHP Daniel Zamora (3.78) gave up a run in the sixth and RHP Cody Bolton (1-1, 2.35) allowed a run in the seventh to take the loss. LF Cal Mitchell (.270) went 2 for 3 with a run scored, and RF Mark Mathias (.271) went 1 for 3 with an RBI. SS Jared Triolo (.250) went 1 for 2 with a walk and a double.

In the second game, Indianapolis was one-hit and lost 1-0. RHP Hayden Wesneski threw five hitless innings. RF Canaan Smith-Njigba (.217) went 1 for 2 with a walk and broke up the no-hitter with a double in the sixth inning. RHP JC Flowers (3.54) pitched a scoreless first as an opener. LHP Caleb Smith (2-4, 7.17) pitched six innings of relief, giving up one run on six hits with four strikeouts.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 18-18) beat Bowie (Orioles), 6-4, in a game shortened to six innings by rain. RF Henry Davis (.311) went 1 for 2 and hit his 10th home run, a solo shot. SS Liover Peguero (.276) went 3 for 3 with two homers, his third and fourth, and three RBIs. 2B Drew Maggi (.184) went 1 for 3 with an RBI. LHP Braeden Ogle (7.62) worked a scoreless first as an opener. RHP Justin Meis (1-3, 7.39) of Bethel Park worked four innings in relief, allowing four runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts, picking up his first win of the year.

Next: Sunday at Bowie (Orioles), 1:05 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 20-18) was outslugged by Asheville (Astros), 9-7. 3B Jackson Glenn (.323) went 3 for 4 with a home run, his sixth, and three RBIs. LF Jase Bowen (.256) went 1 for 5 with a three-run homer, his eighth. SS Mike Jarvis (.204) went 1 for 5 with a double. RHP Valentin Linarez (0-3, 6.94) started and allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits and two walks in 2.2 innings. He fanned six. RHP Jaycob Deese (4.91) gave up four runs on six hits and a walk in 1.1 innings.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 20-18) fell 5-3 beat Clearwater (Phillies), 3-1. RHP Blake Cederlind (1-1, 27.00), rehabbing an elbow injury, gave up a run on two hits and a walk in an inning but picked up the win. RHP JP Massey (2.76) started and worked six scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk, striking out five. LHP Luis Peralta (2.31) pitched two scoreless innings, giving up two hits and fanning four, to earn his first save. SS Javier Rivas (.235) went 1 or 4 with a double and three RBIs. 1B Jesus Castillo (.279) went 2 for 4 with a run scored. 2B Termarr Johnson (.267) went 0 for 2 with three walks.
