Pirates farm report for May 3, 2023: Liover Peguero hits 1st homer of season for Curve

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 11-17) split a doubleheader with Toledo (Tigers). Indianapolis dropped the first game, 4-3. CF Josh Palacios and 2B Aaron Shackelford (.246) each went 1 for 3 with a triple and an RBI. LHP Kent Emanuel (8.74) started and allowed two runs on one hit and one walk in 2.2 innings. RHP John O’Reilly (0-2, 8.44) took the loss, surrendering two runs on two hits and two walks while recording one out. RHP Chase De Jong (0.00), RHP Yerry De Los Santos (9.00) and RHP Carmen Mlodzinski (3.75) each threw a scoreless inning of relief.

In the second game, Indianapolis scored a 9-0 win. LHP Caleb Smith (1-2, 7.04) threw a complete-game, seven-inning shutout, allowing three hits and no walks and striking out five. RF Canaan Smith-Njigba (.125) went 1 for 3 with his first homer. DH Malcom Nunez (.189) went 1 for 2 with a double, and RBI and a walk. SS Vinny Capra (.190), Palacios (.412) and C Grant Koch (.276) each went 2 for 4.

Next: Thursday at Toledo (Tigers), 6:35 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 11-10) beat Richmond (Giants), 5-4, in 10 innings. SS Liover Peguero (.254) went 2 for 5 with his first home run. RF Matt Gorski (.179) went 1 for 5 with a two-run homer, his third. 2B Domingo Leyba (.333) went 2 for 5 with two RBIs. RHP Justin Meis (6.88) of Bethel Park started and went one inning, allowing one run on one hit and three walks. RHP Matt Eckelman (1.29) pitched three scoreless innings of relief. RHP Now Toribio (1-0, 4.38) allowed a run in the ninth to force extra innings but struck out the side in the 10th to earn the win.

Next: Thursday at Richmond (Giants), 6:35 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 14-9) was outslugged by Winston-Salem (White Sox), 7-6. RHP Valentin Linarez (6.14) started and allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits and a walk in two innings. RF Sammy Siani (.313) went 2 for 3 with his first home run. 2B Maikol Escotto (.224) went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs.

Next: Thursday at Winston-Salem (White Sox), 7 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 14-9) lost to Tampa (Rays), 6-2. LF Enmanuel Terrero (.312) went 2 for 4. CF Rodolfo Nolasco (.280) went 1 for 4 with an RBI. RHP Owen Kellington (3.78) started and allowed two runs on five hits and a walk in four innings. He fanned five. RHP Darvin Garcia (1-1, 7.36) gave up three runs, two earned, on a hit and three walks in an inning of relief to take the loss.

Next: Thursday at Tampa (Rays), 6:30 p.m.
