Pirates farm report for April 12, 2023: Mason Martin homers twice in Altoona win

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 5-6) struggled to get the bats going in a 5-1 loss to St. Paul (Twins). C Grant Koch (.200) was 1 for 3 and drove in the only Indians run with an RBI single. SS Tucupita Marcano (.405) was 0 for 4 with two strikeouts. RF Travis Swaggerty (.250) was 0 for 4 with a strikeout. 2B Nick Gonzales (.189) went 1 for 4 with two strikeouts, and 3B Chris Owings (.161) was 1 for 3 with two strikeouts. RHP Luis Ortiz (0-1, 2.92) started and went four innings, allowing three runs on three hits, two walks and one home run and struck out six to take the loss. RHP Yerry De Los Santos (6.75) threw one inning of relief and allowed no runs on two hits and one walk and struck out two.

Next: Thursday vs. St. Paul (Twins), 6:35 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 2-3) used the home run to crush Erie (Tigers), 17-6. 1B Mason Martin (.267) led the charge by going 3 for 4 with a two-run homer, a solo shot, a double and two walks. C Henry Davis (.263) hit a three-run home run and had two singles to finish 3 for 6. CF Matt Fraizer (.400) went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and a double. 2B Andres Alvarez (.200) hit a three-run home run and LF Lolo Sanchez hit a two-run bomb. SS Liover Peguero (.217) finished the day 2 for 6 with an RBI double. RHP Travis MacGregor (1-0, 4.50) picked up the win after throwing 1.2 shutout innings of relief and allowing no hits while striking out three. RHP Kyle Nicholas (9.00) got the start and went 3.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, two walks, two strike outs and one home run.

Next: Thursday at Erie (Tigers), 6:05 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 3-2) lost a 6-2 decision to Jersey Shore (Phillies). SS Tsung-Che Cheng (.294) and CF Chase Bowen (.381) both went 1 for 4 with a solo home run. LF Hudson Head (.118) went 1 for 4 with a double. 3B Mike Jarvis (.357) was 1 for 4 with two strikeouts. RHP Po-Yu Chen (0-1, 14.73) was roughed up in 3.2 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, one walk and one home run and struck out two. RHP Michell Miliano (0.00) threw 2.1 innings of relief and allowed no runs on no hits and struck out five.

Next: Thursday at Jersey Shore (Phillies), 6:35 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 2-3) defeated Lakeland (Tigers), 10-5. CF Tres Gonzalez (.294) went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. 3B Jack Brannigan (.333) went 2 for 5 with a triple. 2B Jesus Castillo (.429) was 1 for 3 with an RBI. C Wyatt Hendrie (.125) was 1 for 5 with a three-run single. RHP Wilbur Dotel (8.10) started and went 3.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks and struck out two. LHP Yoldin De La Paz (1-0, 5.40) threw two-thirds of an inning in relief to pick up the win and allowed no runs on two hits.
