Aspinwall businesses got a big shout-out during Catholic Schools Week from students at Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic Academy.

Students trekked through the busy corridors of Brilliant and Commercial avenues to deliver hand-drawn posters and cards to merchants which share the neighborhood with the private school.

“One of our greatest assets as a school is our community,” Principal Mark Grgurich said. “We are so fortunate to be surrounded by the generous businesses and community of Aspinwall.”

Students distributed the thank-yous as part of Catholic Schools Week, which ran the week of Jan. 29 through Feb. 4.

Students in each grade made signs of appreciation that were delivered through town by the sixth graders.

Katie Lovett, the school’s director of marketing, said local businesses support the school by donating gift cards and baskets to yearly fundraisers. One business partners with the school for a fashion show fundraiser, she said, and others sell discounted gift cards to use for different school fundraisers.

“They also hand out candy to all of our students for Halloween as we trick-or-treat down Brilliant Avenue,” Lovett said.

“It’s a wonderful partnership.”
