A North Huntingdon woman spent much of Saturday on the hunt for the driver who crashed into her home and then drove away.

By the evening, she said she was notified by township police that they had identified the driver in the 1 a.m. incident.

“It was less than 24 hours, and they found him,” Teresa Monier said, commending the quick work of officers.

But she’s still dealing with the aftermath — the interior damage has been covered with a tarp, old clothing and carpet to try to keep the cold air out. She was sleeping upstairs when the crash happened.

“I heard this loud noise, and I’m like, ‘What the hell!’ ” she said.

Monier came downstairs to see part of her front wall pushed in, with the wood behind the wall exposed. Outside, a chain link fence had been mowed over and a section of the home and siding damaged.

Tire tracks are visible in the mud, and pieces of broken tail light sit on the ground, which is down a small concrete embankment from the road near its intersection with Hunters Wood Lane. Monier spent much of Saturday posting photographs of the damage to social media, pleading for help to find the perpetrator.

Monier said township police took broken pieces of the vehicle, which she believes was a pickup truck. The scene is not far from the township building, just off Route 30.

Her son, Ryan Monier, said they were lucky the house didn’t collapse.

“Just to leave somebody’s house like that, it’s not right,” he said. “You put a hole into somebody’s house.”

They were given the OK by firefighters to stay there.
