Students in the North Allegheny School District go back to school on Aug. 22, and new signs are being posted to remind people that campuses will be closed to all non-student or non-school-related activities from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday starting with the first day of school.
Only people with student- or school-related business will be allowed on campus, and all visitors must report to school offices, according to the school district website.
During the summer, people were able to access NA facilities for recreational activities when official district activities or practices weren’t taking place, said school district spokeswoman Brandi Smith. Starting Aug. 22, NA will be enforcing the closed-campus policy, she said in an email message.
The district is also working with the communities of Marshall and McCandless townships and Franklin Park and Bradford Woods to remind residents of the change.
Starting Aug. 22, prohibited activities include:
Casual pedestrian traffic, such as walking, jogging, walking pets or taking a short-cut through school district property.
Operation of any vehicle on school property for non-student or non-school-related business, whether the vehicle is self-propelled or motor driven, including skateboards, scooters, bicycles, inline skates, and motor bikes.
Entering or using district athletic fields and facilities, courts, trails, playgrounds, and all other recreational areas. People will not be permitted to be on the fields or run on the athletic tracks surrounding the fields while student-athletes and their coaching staff are using them for games or practice.
Refusal to leave or stay away as directed would be considered trespassing. Those who violate the policy could be charged with a misdemeanor, according to the school’s website.
Those who use recreational areas outside of school hours would not be considered to be tresspassing, according to the website.
