Pittsburgh Passion claim blowout victory over Tri-State Warriors

The Pittsburgh Passion women’s football team pitched a shutout Saturday night to earn a 35-0 victory over Tri-State Warriors at West Allegheny’s Joe P. DeMichela Stadium.

The game was was played in front of fans for the first time in two years because of the pandemic.

The Passion (2-0) got off to a fast start when Maria Fautali scored on a 2-yard run. After safety Lawanda Pearson picked off a pass, Marcelina Chavez scored on a 57-yard run to make it 14-0.

On their next possession, Chavez threw a 40-yard halfback pass to Jana Meister for a score. George added a 27-yard TD run, and Arielle Smith scored on a 13-yard run to secure a 35-0 lead at halftime.

The game was called at halftime when Tri-State (0-3) said it didn’t have enough healthy players to continue.

The Passion offense compiled 177 rushing yards, and Meister had 83 receiving yards.

Pittsburgh returns to action Saturday at Boston to take on the Renegades.
