Pitt-Johnstown's John Paul Kromka earns All-American, All-Atlantic Region honors

Pitt-Johnstown junior forward John Paul Kromka was named to the first-team Division II National Association of Basketball Coaches All-Atlantic Region Team on March 21. The next day, he was selected as one of the 16 men’s basketball players to earn a spot on the NABC Division II All-America team.

The All-America and All-Region honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division II.

The Gateway graduate, also a D2CCA All-Region selection, was a six-time PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week in 2021-22. He earned his third straight PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year honor and his third straight All-PSAC West honor after being named to the second team as a freshman and the first team in both 2019-20 and 2021-22.

The 2018-19 PSAC West Freshman of the Year led Pitt-Johnstown in scoring (17.5 ppg), rebounding (8.1 rpg.), field goal percentage (67.7%) and blocks (88) and was second in assists (87) and third in steals.

Kromka led NCAA Division II in blocks (88) and led the PSAC and ranked fourth nationally in blocked shots per game (2.90) and fifth in field goal percentage (67.7%).

He surpassed 1,000 career points early in the season and now stands 11th on UPJ’s all-time score list with 1,443 points. He also is fourth all-time in rebounds with 732.

Kromka was joined on the first team by Cal (Pa.)’s Philip Alston, West Liberty’s Bryce Butler, IUP’s Armoni Foster and Fairmont State’s Isaiah Sanders.

IUP’s Joe Lombardi was named the coach of the year.
