A 15-year-old girl was flown to a hospital from Tarentum on Monday after police say she ran into the side of a car on West Seventh Avenue.
The driver, a man from Tarentum, remained at the scene and is not facing any charges because he did not commit any violation, police Chief William Vakulick said Tuesday.
The incident happened around 3 p.m. on West Seventh at Mill Street.
According to Vakulick, the driver was coming down Ross Street toward the Tarentum Bridge and was in the turning lane to turn right onto West Seventh Avenue. A traffic signal is located there and no turns are permitted when it is red.
The driver had a green light to turn onto West Seventh Avenue, Vakulick said. The driver told police that as he got to Mill Street at the end of the turning lane, he saw a flash and heard a thump on his vehicle.
The girl, who was on foot, ran into the side of the car, knocking off the side mirror on its driver’s side, Vakulick said.
Witnesses supported the driver’s account of what happened, Vakulick said.
The girl, who is from Tarentum, said her head hurt and she did not know where she was, which is why a helicopter was summoned, Vakulick said.
Vakulick said he did not know what hospital the girl was taken to, and he had not received any update on her condition Tuesday.
