A key block of Youngwood’s Depot Street will be closed beginning Monday as work continues on reconstructing the Route 119 corridor in the borough.

Depot will be closed between Third Street, which carries northbound traffic on Route 119, and Fourth Street, which has the southbound lanes, while crews complete drainage work.

Weather permitting, the closure and a related detour are expected to conclude by Feb. 9.

Northbound motorists wishing to turn left from Third onto Depot instead will continue north, turning left at Washington Avenue and returning south on Fourth Street.

Southbound traffic will continue to Hillis Street, turning left and then returning north on Third Street.

The Route 119 construction zone stretches from Hillis north to Stout’s Discount Carpet.

Contractor Golden Triangle is expected to continue working on the $24.1 million project through the end of 2023.

The reconstructed lanes of Route 119 will include “chicanes,” slight curves in the roadway that will force traffic from right to left and are meant to slow down motorists.

Adjacent sidewalks also are being updated, incorporating manholes that have contributed to a rough ride in the travel lanes.
