As the Pittsburgh Pirates continue to redefine and shift roles in their minor league system, they have hired three new coaches who all have experience playing in the major leagues.

Dewey Robinson will be named special advisor for pitching development. Robinson, 66, has more than four decades of coaching experience, including the past 12 as director of pitching development for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Robinson pitched for the Chicago White Sox from 1979-81 and spent the ’82 season at the Pirates’ Triple-A affiliate. He worked for the White Sox for 10 seasons, including two as bullpen coach. He also was pitching coach for the Houston Astros for two seasons.

Dan Meyer was hired as pitching coach for Triple-A Indianapolis, where he will replace Joel Hanrahan. Meyer, 40, was a first-round pick by Atlanta in 2002 and played one season for the Braves and two each with the Oakland A’s and Florida Marlins, where he played with Pirates farm director John Baker.

Chris Truby was hired as infield coordinator, a position he held for four seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies. Truby, 48, played third base for Houston, Montreal, Detroit and Tampa Bay, as well as a season in the minors with the Pirates before becoming a coach in their system. He spent 13 years with the Phillies, serving as manager for Williamsport, Lakewood and Clearwater.
