Bryan Reynolds earned his share of honors this season, as the Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder was selected to his first All-Star Game, a finalist for the Gold Glove Award and nominated for the All-MLB team.
Once again, he missed out on bring home hardware.
Reynolds was a finalist for the Silver Slugger Award but came away emptyhanded. The National League outfield winners were Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies, Juan Soto of the Washington Nationals and Nick Castellanos of the Cincinnati Reds. The awards were announced on Thursday night on MLB Network.
Reynolds batted .302/.390/.522 with 35 doubles, eight triples, 24 home runs and 90 RBIs in 159 games this season. Reynolds was tied for the major league lead in triples, and ranked eighth in the National League in batting average, fourth in on-base percentage and seventh in OPS (.912).
It was an impressive bounce-back season for Reynolds, who slashed .189/.275/.357 with six doubles, two triples, seven homers and 19 RBIs in 55 games in 2020 after hitting .314/.377/.503 with 37 doubles, four triples, 16 homers and 68 RBIs in 134 games as a rookie in 2019.
Reynolds was trying to become the fifth Pirates outfielder to win a Silver Slugger, and the first since Andrew McCutchen won four consecutive from 2012-15. Barry Bonds won three consecutive from 1990-92, Bobby Bonilla won in 1988 (at third base), ’90 and ’91 while Andy Van Slyke won in 1988 and ’92.
