A national chain focused on healthy eating is opening Wednesday in Blawnox, the first location in the Pittsburgh area.
Clean Eatz is opening at 175 Freeport Road, in a new retail plaza at the corner of Center Avenue.
Owner Darryl Duncan, 58, hails from the corporate health care field and relocated to Pittsburgh from Morgantown, W.Va.
He plans to open five Clean Eatz in the area. Locations have been secured in Murrysville and Cranberry while Duncan scouts options in the South Hills and Robinson.
“This is an opportunity to make a difference with people who want to change their lifestyle and eat healthy,” Duncan said. “It’s a lifestyle — that’s one of our themes.”
Clean Eatz, a franchise operation, has 67 locations nationwide.
The Blawnox location will offer grab-n-go and dine-in options. The menu includes wraps, burgers, build-a-bowls, flatbreads, kid’s meals, salads and smoothies.
In addition, Clean Eatz offers a meal plan service for takeout. Meal plans are created with portion size in mind and offer a balance of carbs, protein and fats, with vegetarian and vegan options.
“We don’t cook with oils, butters, sugars and salt,” Duncan said. “We focus on a macro-nutrient balance.”
The plans range from five to 21 meals, at $7.60 to $6.10 per serving.
Duncan said that after visiting a Clean Eatz in North Carolina, he decided to purchase the licensing rights to the Pittsburgh area.
“After 35 years of working a high-stress job, I wanted to do something fun that could still make a difference,” he said.
Clean Eatz is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.
