Norwin library to hold Trivia Night

Teams of four to five people will be able to compete in Trivia Night at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Norwin Public Library on Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

Contestants can create their own team or be placed in a team. Light refreshments will be served.

The program is free, but registration is required. To register, call the library at 724-863-4700, ext. 3.

North Huntingdon names interim manager

North Huntingdon’s assistant manager has been appointed as the interim manager since the former manager left his job Nov. 1 to take a similar position in Cumberland, Md.

Michael Turley was named by the North Huntingdon commissioners last month as the interim manager, replacing Jeff Silka, who left the township to take a similar managerial role in the City of Cumberland, Md. Turley also will serve as secretary, treasurer and right-to-know officer.

Silka’s submitted his resignation in late September, and it was approved last month.

Turley previously served as interim manager three times, most recently when John Shepherd resigned in May 2017 and before Silka was hired in November 2017.

Boy Scout troop to sell luminaria

Boy Scout Troop 284 of Irwin plans to raise money by selling pies, wreaths, luminarias and Christmas trees.

The troop will sell pies from the Pie Shoppe in Laughlintown for Thanksgiving. The deadline for ordering the pies is Nov. 12.

Drive-through pickup for the pies will be from 3 and 6 p.m. Nov. 24 at First Presbyterian Church of Irwin, Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

The Boy Scouts have set a Nov. 12 deadline for ordering wreaths, poinsettias and centerpieces for Christmas. Drive-through pickup for the Christmas items will be from from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 7 at First Presbyterian Church of Irwin.

The deadline for luminaria orders is Dec. 11. The luminaria will be delivered to the buyers on the weekend of Dec. 18. Luminaries are available only by delivery.

Orders can be placed online at Troop284Irwin.com. Mail in orders and payment should be sent to Boy Scout Troop 284, 1670 Craig Drive, North Huntingdon, PA 15642.
