Pittsburgh company Schultheis Bros. is celebrating its 75th anniversary with the Great Roof Giveaway.
Schultheis Bros. President Katie Rullo. a third-generation Schultheis, came up with the idea of a roof giveaway to both honor her uncle Bill, and the legacy of her grandfather, Richard J. Schultheis, who began the business after serving a tour of duty in the U.S. Navy and who is celebrating a significant milestone of his own this year, turning 100 on Nov. 16.
“As we considered how best to celebrate 75 years in business, we recognize how difficult the past year has been and the strain that so many families have endured,” said Rullo. “The common thread within each of our three finalists are families who give everything to help others. We would not have reached this milestone without the support of the Pittsburgh community, and now we want to give back to the city we love by helping an incredibly deserving family in need with a new roof.”
Those entering the contest told their stories and explained why they needed the roof. But, one winner could not be chosen from the three finalists, so each of the deserving families got a new roof. Valued at more than $10,000, Schultheis Bros. donated all labor and will extend the warranty of the CertainTeed brand.
Thee three finalists were Larry and Linda Sweeney of Verona, Patyn McCune of Plum and Kristen Woodring of Monroeville.
The Woodring family’s roof was installed Oct. 23 and the McCune’s on Oct. 26. The Sweeney’s project is scheduled for the week of Nov. 1.
