The Penn Hills Library, 1037 Stotler Road, is hosting author Will Brandstetter for the launch of his second book Oct. 23.

Published by HOP/Shorehouse Books, “Heartly Law?”is a follow-up to the first in the series, “Heartly God?”

Brandstetter said “Heartly Law?” is the story of a priest who commits an unspeakable act — trying to assassinate another person in a church packed full of people. He is unsuccessful in his attempt and is quickly arrested. The story follows the public defender assigned to represent him as the police department struggles with the realization that one bad act should not define a person who has lived such an exemplary life of service. The story also gives an inside look at the public defender’s mindset and trial strategies as he works feverishly to keep the old priest from dying in jail. The story concludes with a dramatic trial of the would-be killer priest.

Brandstetter is a 1993 graduate of Penn Hills High School.

The library also will be host an open house, which will include offerings by Sobel’s Obscure Brewery, Little Nicky’s Italian and multiple craft vendors.
