A Uniontown man will serve life in prison with no chance for parole after he was sentenced Thursday for killing a man in 2017 in Pittsburgh’s Hill District.
An Allegheny County jury found Tevin Patterson, 27, guilty of first-degree murder in the Aug. 8, 2017, shooting death of Calvin Turner, 20, inside Terrace Village, a housing community on Oak Hill Drive.
Common Pleas Judge Edward J. Borkowski also ordered Patterson to serve an additional seven to 14 years on a firearms count.
A criminal complaint filed in the case said a private security guard working in the area at the time of the shooting said he heard three gunshots and then saw a suspicious man, later identified as Patterson, wearing only one shoe.
When the security officer approached Patterson, he fled. He was arrested by Pittsburgh police officers a short time later in a nearby wooded area. They said he did not have shoes or a shirt on. Officers said they later found a sweatshirt with blood splatter and a Nike shoe in the woods.
A matching shoe was found at the crime scene, police said.
