Franklin Regional students will celebrate homecoming, crowning a queen and king at Friday’s home game against Woodland Hills.
This year’s homecoming court includes Abby Ely, Abby Bogler, Sydney Breitkreutz, Sophia Borelli, Delaney Pipon, Abby Nicolette, Josie Seymour, Abby Alexander, Casey Huczko, Caden Smith, Finn Solomon, Josh Pelusi, Christo Marion, Garrett Deller, Anthony DiFalco and Justin Tuminello.
The annual homecoming bonfire, with student club booths, food and performances by the FR Panther Marching Band and cheerleaders will take place Thursday, 5:30-8 p.m. at Franklin Regional Senior High School, 3200 School Road in Murrysville.
Local author will be library’s featured speaker
Local author Gemma Stemley will be the featured speaker at the Murrysville Community Library’s Oct. 23 program.
Stemley is the author of “Finding Home: A Sentimental Journey,” which touches on themes of immigration, home and belonging.
It will take place at 2 p.m. at the library’s new TechNook.

Woman’s club to meet Oct. 21
The Murrysville Woman’s Club will meet at 11:15 a.m., Oct. 21 at Brushes and Beans in Murrysville.

AAUW meeting will focus on women’s suffrage
The Murrysville chapter of the American Association of University Women will welcome Judy Sutton as its featured speaker on Oct. 14.
Sutton, a docent and ambassador for the Heinz History Center and the Historical Society of Mt. Lebanon, will discuss the early days of women’s suffrage in the U.S. Attendees are asked to dress in white, the color worn by women protesting for the right to vote.
The public is invited to attend, and masks are required. The meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. at the Murrysville Community Center, 3091 Carson Street in Murrysville.

Fundraiser will benefit FR Backpacks-to-Go program
The Murrysville-Export Rotary has partnered with Completely Booked in Murrysville for a fundraiser that will benefit Franklin Regional’s Backpacks-to-Go program.
From Oct. 15-17, a portion of proceeds from the store’s book fair will go to the program to help ensure that participants will receive a Christmas gift in addition to a regular supply of nutritious food.
Completely Booked is at 201 Blue Spruce Way in the Blue Spruce Shoppes on Route 22 in Murrysville.
Cornerstone to host Fall Fun Fest
Cornerstone Ministries will host an Oct. 15 Fall Fun Fest for children from age 5 through fifth grade.
It will be from 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Cornerstone, 2200 Cornerstone Lane in Murrysville, off Route 22.
The free event will include inflatables, balloon art, carnival games, crafts, a petting zoo and a caricature artist, as well as food trucks.

Ministry marks 11th anniversary
No Walls Ministries will mark its 11th church anniversary with an afternoon celebration Oct. 16.
The church, at 214 Church St. in New Alexandria, will host a day of live music, food, hayrides, face painting, games and more. The event will start at 4 p.m. on the church lawn.
The Rev. Andy Mitrik, dean of Greater Works Outreach Bible School, will be the featured speaker.

PennDOT holds statewide survey
Through Oct. 26, PennDOT is accepting construction and maintenance services feedback through an online survey.
The 20-question survey can be accessed at www.surveymonkey.com/r/2021PDConstruction. Survey questions pertain to how residents receive PennDOT roadway information, whether they use the state’s 511PA traveler information services, whether they feel PennDOT meets or exceeds expectations in construction and maintenance activities and past experiences with reporting concerns to PennDOT, among other things.
“Through collaborative efforts, we maintain our transportation network while also planning and executing statewide transportation improvements,” PennDOT Secretary Yassmin Gramian said. “This survey will help us understand needs measure public expectations and identify educational opportunities.”
