The Pittsburgh Pirates reinstated catcher Jacob Stallings from the seven-day concussion injured list and infielder/outfielder Michael Chavis from the 10-day IL Tuesday, making both players active for the final homestand of the season.

Stallings experienced mild concussion symptoms after taking a backswing off the facemask against the Miami Marlins and was placed on the IL on Sept. 20. Stallings is in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park, the first in a three-game series.

“I’m feeling better,” Stallings said. “It was just the kind of thing that wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t getting better. I felt like I should say something before it got worse. I’m glad I did. I’m feeling better. I hope I don’t take any shots tonight.”

Chavis strained his right elbow attempting to make a diving catch in right field against the St. Louis Cardinals on Aug. 28 and was placed on the IL three days later. He batted .357 (10 for 28) with three home runs and eight RBIs in eight games during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis.

To make room on the 28-man roster, the Pirates optioned catcher Taylor Davis to Indianapolis and placed right-hander Connor Overton on the 10-day IL with a right shoulder strain.

Overton took the loss against Cincinnati on Monday, allowing four runs on six hits with two strikeouts in the first inning in the 13-1 loss to the Reds. Davis was selected from Indianapolis when Stallings went on the IL on Sept. 20, and went 2 for 3 in his first start on Saturday at Philadelphia.
