Pirates farm report for Sept. 21, 2021: Bradenton wins dramatic playoff opener

BRADENTON (Low-A, 71-48) got an RBI single from C Endy Rodriguez and a bases-loaded, two-out, walk-off walk from DH Abrahan Gutierrez to rally from a run down in the ninth for a 4-3 victory over Tampa (Yankees) in Game 1 of the best-of-five Low-A East championship series. RHP Adrian Florencio started and pitched five scoreless before giving up a solo homer in the top of the sixth. He struck out seven and walked none. The Marauders took a 2-1 lead when 1B Ernny Ordonez and SS Maikol Escotto hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the seventh. RHP Justin Meis, a Bethel Park grad, gave up two runs on two walks and a hit without recording an out to give Tampa the 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth. Rodriguez went 4 for 5. Ordonez and Escotto were 2 for 4. RHP Wandi Montout got the final six outs to earn the win.

Next: Wednesday, Game 2 vs. Tampa (Yankees), 6:05 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 74-46) and Bowling Green (Rays) had the first game of the best-of-five High-A East championship series rained out. It will be made up Wednesday.
