Pirates farm report for Sept. 5, 2021: Oneil Cruz’s prodigious homer helps Curve snap 7-game skid

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 51-56) split a doubleheader with Iowa (Cubs).

In the first game, Indianapolis scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning and won 4-3 on C Christian Bethancourt’s walk-off single. Bethancourt (.272) was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. RF Bligh Madris (.262) also knocked in two runs. RHP James Marvel (5.45) allowed three runs (2 earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks in six innings, earning a no-decision. RHP Blake Weiman (4-0, 4.86) earned the win after striking out two batters and not allowing a hit in one inning of relief.

In Game 2, the Indians lost 9-0. 2B Tucupita Marcano was 2 for 4. RHP Miguel Yajure (1-3, 3.58) allowed three runs (2 earned) on two hits with four walks and three strikeouts in three innings and took the loss.

Next: Tuesday at Louisville (Reds), 6:30 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 53-52) snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 7-2 win over Akron (Indians). SS Oneil Cruz (.290) smacked his 10th home run of the season stadium and it left the stadium in Akron.

1B Mason Martin (.252) was 2 for 5 with two RBIs. LHP Trey McGough (3.84) tossed four scoreless innings, allowing three hits with four strikeouts. LHP Nathan Kirby (1-0, 7.71) picked up the win after allowing one hit with four strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Next: Tuesday vs. Erie (Tigers), 6:00 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 69-39) was beaten 23-4 by Hudson Valley (Yankees). 2B Nick Gonzales (.303) hit his 17th home run. 3B Andres Alvarez (.313) was 2 for 5 with a homer. LF Lolo Sanchez (.251) also homered in the loss. RHP Tajnaj Thomas (3-3, 5.19) allowed seven runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in four innings in defeat.

Next: Tuesday at Jersey Shore (Phillies), 7:05 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 65-41) lost 8-5 to Tampa (Yankees). 2B Jackson Glenn (.367) was 1 for 5 with an RBI double and run scored. 3B Dariel Lopez (.256) and SS Maikol Escotto (.239) also knocked in runs. LHP Po-Yu Chen (12.60) allowed three runs on two hits with five walks and six strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. RHP Christian Charlie (0-1, 15.00) allowed two runs on two hits in one inning and took the loss.

Next: Tuesday at Clearwater (Phillies), 7 p.m.
