The Town of McCandless will host a scaled-back Community Day on Saturday, Sept. 11.

This year’s celebration marks the first McCandless Town Trot 5K and Fun Run, which will take place at 9 a.m. at North Allegheny Intermediate School.

Proceeds from the race will go to the Highland, Ingomar and Peebles volunteer fire companies.

The Frank J. Farina Car Cruise will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. at North Allegheny Intermediate.

The McCandless/Northern Allegheny Heritage Center will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m., Jim Vinski, a lifelong history buff and reenactor, will offer a demonstration on some of the items a World War II soldier would carry.

Starting around 6:30 p.m., there will be fireworks and food trucks at McCandless Town Hall/Devlin Park.

Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket and some lawn games.

There will also be an observance of first responders and veterans at about 7 p.m.

The evening will be capped off by a patriotic fireworks display scheduled for 8:15 p.m.
