The Pittsburgh Pirates will open next season at home on Opening Day, playing the St. Louis Cardinals on March 31 at PNC Park, and their schedule features interleague games against American League East Division opponents.

MLB announced the 2022 schedule Wednesday, and it will mark the first time in six years the Pirates have opened their season at home. They beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-1, on April 3, 2016, a day after playing their spring training finale against the Cincinnati Reds at Victory Field in Indianapolis.

Since then, the Pirates have opened on the road at the Boston Red Sox in 2017, Detroit Tigers in 2018, Reds in 2019, Cardinals in 2020 and the Chicago Cubs this year.

The Pirates will follow the three-game homestand against the Cardinals by playing three games at Cincinnati and four at St. Louis before returning home for a six-game homestand against the Cubs and Washington Nationals.

The Pirates’ interleague schedule features visits from the Detroit Tigers (June 7-8), New York Yankees (July 5-6), Boston Red Sox (Aug. 16-18) and Toronto Blue Jays (Sept. 2-4). The Pirates play at Detroit (May 3-4), the Tampa Bay Rays (June 24-27), Baltimore Orioles (Aug. 5-7) and Yankees (Sept. 20-21).

The Yankees series is part of a six-game homestand that starts with four games against the Milwaukee Brewers. In August, the Pirates have a nine-game homestand against Boston, Cincinnati and the Atlanta Braves. The Pirates’ final homestand, from Sept. 22-28, involves seven divisional games, four against the Cubs and three against the Reds.

The Pirates end their season with three games at St. Louis.
