Santa’s Summer Breakout Event

Santa’s breaking out the fun at Bakerstown Alliance Church on July 31, and the entire community is invited to join him.

This free event is happening from 1 to 4 p.m. on the church grounds at 4030 Bakerstown Road, Gibsonia.

“It’s been a hard year for many, and this is our way of helping the community come together and enjoy some much-needed fun and fellowship,” said Pastor Jack Scheid. “Bakerstown Alliance Church is small but mighty, and we could not have pulled this off without the generosity of our friends and neighbors.”

Guests can enjoy food trucks, touch a fire truck/police car, bounce house and kids’ games, raffles and prizes/gift basket giveaway (everyone gets free raffle ticket) and visits/photos with Santa (1-2:45 p.m.).

Bring a beach towel or lawn chair to enjoy live music at the church pavilion from 3 to 4 p.m. Raffle winners will be drawn at the end of the live music session. Free parking is available in the parking lot adjacent to the church grounds.

McCandless police hosting National Night Out

The McCandless police department is planning a full night of family fun to mark the annual National Night Out on Aug. 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Town Hall.

Children are encouraged to dress up in their favorite first responder costume and bring their bicycles and helmets to participate in a free bike rodeo.

There also will be free hot dogs, giveaways and raffles along with a live broadcast by Bob FM.

The night will cap off with movies in the park hosted by the McCandless Community Association.

Residents who can’t attend the event are asked to turn on their porch lights and spend the evening with neighbors.

Town Hall is located at 9955 Grubbs Road.

Outdoor movie night

North Hills Hockey Club is teaming up with Ross Township Parks & Recreation to host a Movie Night Under the Stars. The Aug. 7 event at the Ross Community Center is free, but donations will be accepted to benefit the hockey club. Live music will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the film “The Mighty Ducks” at about 8:30 p.m. The concession stand will be open, and there will be a 50/50 raffle.

Storytelling at Bradford Woods Reserve

On July 30 at 7 p.m., gather at the reserve in Bradford Woods at the corner of Lincoln and Bradford Road, where you can walk down the trail to a beautiful outdoor area around the campfire to listen to people telling short stories.

Bring a blanket to sit on the grass or a chair and a flashlight. There is no parking at the reserve, so attendees will have to park and walk in. After the storytelling, s’mores will be made.

This event is sponsored by the Bradford Woods Conservancy and is free.
