Emily Harrigan is coming home.

The former Norwin star has left Rutgers and will have three years of eligibility when she arrives at Pitt to continue her soccer career.

Harrigan, a redshirt sophomore, has battled hamstring problems for the last three years as she tries to get into a rhythm at the next level.

“I feel this is the best place for me to succeed both in the classroom and on the field,” Harrigan said of Pitt. “It’s been amazing watching this program progress over the past few years, and I could not be more excited to see what this upcoming season brings for the team. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to come home and represent my city where the dream of playing Division I soccer began.”

Since 2018, Harrigan played in 24 games, with 10 starts. She had a goal and an assist in ’19.

She played in seven games in the spring. A public health major who will study exercise science at Pitt, Harrigan was selected to the Academic All-Big Ten Team.

Harrigan left Norwin as the career goals leader with 93. A two-time Tribune-Review Player of the Year, she won a PIAA title as a senior in ’17 and also won WPIAL titles in ’15 and ’16.

She is a former United Soccer All-American.

Harrigan will join three other Norwin alums at Pitt: Katelyn Kauffman, Lacey Bernick and Eva Frankovic.

“She’s another local product that has followed Pitt women’s soccer closely and wanted to be a part of what we’re building,” Pitt coach Randy Waldrum said. “She brings experience to our team … and more attacking talent to a team that has been adding attacking flair the past few years. She’s highly competitive and committed to what we are all about here at Pitt.”
