Pirates farm report for June 16, 2021: Anthony Alford stays hot for Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 20-17) defeated Memphis (Cardinals), 6-1, for the second straight game. CF Chris Sharpe (.198) hit a three-run home run. LF Anthony Alford (.279) smacked a solo homer, and C Jason Delay (.226) was 2 for 4 with a home run. Alford now has six home runs and 19 RBIs this season. RHP Beau Sulser (3-2, 3.82) scattered four hits with five strikeouts in six shutout innings to earn the win.

Next: Thursday vs. Memphis (Cardinals), 7:05 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 23-14) knocked off Erie (Tigers), 4-2. The Curve belted 13 hits, including two each from LF Canaan Smith-Njigba (.232), 2B Rodolfo Castro (.307), DH Brendt Citta (.342) and C Arden Pabst (.183). SS Oneil Cruz (.299) was 1 for 5. 1B Mason Martin (.238) had a two-run single. RHP Travis MacGregor (1-1, 4.21) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings and got a no-decision. RHP Brad Case (2-0, 5.21) earned the win after tossing 1 2/3 hitless innings of relief.

Next: Thursday at Erie (Tigers), 7:05 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High A, 21-17) fell 3-2 to Winston-Salem (White Sox). 1B Aaron Shackelford (.209) went 1 for 4 with an RBI, his 27th of the season. SS Liover Peguero (.267) also had an RBI. The Grasshoppers managed just five hits. RHP Michael Burrows (1-2, 2.12) allowed two runs on four hits with five strikeouts in four innings and took the loss. RHP Grant Ford (2-1, 5.87) allowed just one run on one hit with five strikeouts in four innings of relief.

Next: Thursday at Winston-Salem (White Sox), 7 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low A, 24-14) defeated Tampa (Yankees), 3-2, in a game called in the top of the sixth because of rain. C Ernny Ordonez (.308) hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning to provide the scoring for Bradenton. DH Eli Wilson (.353) had a double. RHP Santiago Florez (3-1, 1.26) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and struck out six in five innings to earn the win.

Next: Thursday at Tampa (Yankees), 6:30 p.m.
