Improvements to Pitt’s Vartabedian Field at its Petersen Sports Complex have led to the school landing the host role for the 2022 ACC Softball Championship tournament. The event will be held May 11-14.

It will be the third ACC championship held at Pitt after the 2015 and 2020 wrestling tournaments were held at Petersen Events Center.

“Softball fans in the Steel City are going to enjoy watching elite softball right here at Vartabedian Field,” Pitt coach Jodi Hermanek said in a statement. “Pitt is ready to host a first-class atmosphere that will make for a championship tournament experience for our teams and softball fans.”

Vartabedian Field underwent a series of upgrades last year, including the installation of a custom AstroTurf field. Signage and overall environmental branding were updated to reflect the Pitt’s blue and gold colors. An indoor batting cage is under construction and will be completed this fall.

The Petersen Sports Complex expansion also includes a student-athlete lounge, meeting and equipment rooms and offices and locker rooms for the visiting team, officials and coaches.
