Construction of a storage garage at Hampton High School is expected to get underway as soon as this fall thanks to approval by Hampton council.
School leaders asked to build a 2,400-square-foot garage to store maintenance and lawn equipment.
Because the school along McCully Road sits in a conservation district, the project required conditional use approval from council, which it granted during a May meeting.
Chris Brown, senior associate from VEBH Architects, said the building will sit behind the main gym at the school.
It will measure 40 by 60 feet and have three garage door bays.
The first bay, closest to the high school, will house the district’s salt truck which currently sits inside the school.
“This will free up space within the building for other uses like an IT workspace and receiving area,” Brown said.
The other two bays are designed to keep equipment related to athletic fields, such as mowers and tools.
The metal building will be accented with landscaping.
Construction will be part of a larger project beginning this fall and lasting through most of 2022.
“The storage building will likely be constructed before the end of the entire project,” Brown said.
