Pirates farm report for June 2, 2021: Oneil Cruz has 4 hits, homer for Altoona

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 12-12) and Columbus (Indians) were rained out. They will play a doubleheader at 5:05 p.m. Friday.

Next: Thursday vs. Columbus (Indians), 7:05 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 16-9) beat Richmond (Giants), 9-4, behind a 4-for-5 showing by SS Oneil Cruz. Cruz hit a two-run homer, his fifth, and drove in four runs to extend his hitting streak to seven games. He’s batting .287 with a .906 OPS. 2B Ji-hwan Bae, the Curve’s leadoff hitter, went 2 for 4 with a walk and three runs scored. CF Jonah Davis went 1 for 3 with two walks, a triple and an RBI. RF Cal Mitchell went 1 for 5 with a double and two RBIs. C Raul Hernandez went 2 for 5. RHP Travis MacGregor started and went five innings, giving up two runs on one hit – a home run – and struck out five.

Next: Thursday at Richmond (Giants), 6:35 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 12-14) lost 13-7 to Winston-Salem (White Sox). RHP Braxton Ashcraft started and was tagged with five runs, all earned, on six hits and a walk in four innings. RHP Austin Roberts took the loss in relief, allowing five runs, two earned, on four hits. 1B Jesus Valdez went 3 for 4 with a double and a solo home run, his second. CH Matthew Fraizer went 2 for 4 with a triple, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. He’s hitting .279 with a .789 OPS. DH Aaron Shackelford went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

Next: Thursday vs. Winston-Salem (White Sox), 6:30 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 17-9) edged Dunedin (Blue Jays), 1-0, in a game with four total hits, two for each team. C Endy Rodriguez accounted for the game’s only run on a fourth-inning home run, his fifth. RF Sergio Campana had Bradenton’s other hit. RHP Santiago Florez started and went six innings, striking out 10 and allowing two hits and two walks. He’s 1-1 with a 1.52 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 23.2 innings. RHP Parker Brahms pitched two hitless innings and RHP Enmauel Mejia struck out the side in a perfect ninth for his second save.
