Pirates farm report for May 27, 2021: Cruz hits 3rd homer for Altoona

INDIANAPOLIS (Triple-A, 11-9) lost 6-5 to Omaha (Royals) on a walk-off RBI single by LF Kyle Isbel off LHP Braeden Ogle. RHP James Marvel started and fared no better, giving up five runs, four earned, on seven hits and two walks in 3⅔ innings. LHP Joe Jacques and RHP Shea Spitzbarth combined for 3⅓ scoreless innings in between. DH Bligh Madris went 2 for 4 with a solo home run, his first. A 2017 ninth-round draft pick, he’s hitting .391. C Andrew Susac went 1 for 3 with a double to up his average to .280. SS Kevin Kramer went 1 for 5 with two RBIs.

Next: Friday at Omaha (Royals), 8:05 p.m.

ALTOONA (Double-A, 13-7) got a three-run home run from SS Oneil Cruz in a 7-5 win over Erie (Tigers). Cruz, who is hitting .239 with a .735 OPS, went 2 for 5. It was his third home run. LF Brendt Citta and C Raul Hernandez hit solo shots for the Curve. Citta, a 2018 38th-round draft pick out of the University of Kansas, is hitting .385 with a 1.018 OPS. RF Cal Mitchell and 3B Josh Bissonnette had two hits apiece. RHP Noe Toribio started and allowed two runs on four hits in five innings, fanning six.

Next: Friday vs. Erie (Tigers), 6 p.m.

GREENSBORO (High-A, 11-10) edged Wilmington (Nationals), 2-1. DH Lolo Sanchez hit his third home run of the season to break a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning. Sanchez went 1 for 2 and is hitting .250 with a .903 OPS. RHP Braxton Ashcraft started and went 4⅓ innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out three. RHP Grant Ford pitched 3⅔ scoreless innings of relief, earning the win. RHP Oliver Garcia pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save. CF Matt Gorski had an RBI single in the sixth for the Grasshoppers, who were held to four hits.

Next: Friday vs. Wilmington (Nationals), 6:30 p.m.

BRADENTON (Low-A, 12-9) rallied for four runs in the eighth to beat Palm Beach (Cardinals), 6-5. The big hit in the inning was a two-run single by RF Blake Sabol, who went 2 for 2. A 2019 seventh-round draft pick from Southern Cal, Sabol is 5 for 10 this season. C Endy Rodriguez hit his fourth home run. He’s hitting .288 with a .902 OPS. 2B Yoyner Fajardo singled and drove in a run. RHP Eddy Yean started and went four innings, allowing one run on three hits, whiffing three. RHP Logan Hofmann, a 2020 fifth-round pick, got knocked around, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits and a walk in 2⅔ innings. RHP Wandi Montout and RHP Emmanuel Mejia pitched scoreless innings of relief.
