Two Alle-Kiski Valley communities held community clean-up days Saturday in observance of Earth Day.

Volunteers in Blawnox and Plum took to the streets for several hours Saturday morning, cleaning up parks and other public areas.

In Plum, it was the fifth year the cleanup has been held. Groups met at the borough works facility on Old Mine Road at 8:30 a.m. and worked for around an hour and a half. They cleared debris and picked up trash from a number of areas, including Old Abers Creek Road.

Around 30 volunteers in Blawnox worked from 9 a.m. to noon, clearing out brush, dead leaves and other debris from along Freeport Road and the ball fields at Blawnox Community Park. Groups of Fox Chapel students helped out in the clean-up, with some painting rocks with kind messages on them.
