Pitt baseball recorded its second series victory against a top-10 team in the past three weekends, toppling No. 7 Georgia Tech (9-5, 6-3), 18-12, Sunday at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta.

Pitt won two of the series’ three games after sweeping then-No. 9 Florida State on Feb. 26-28. Through three ACC weekends, Pitt (9-4, 6-3) is off to its best start since joining the conference in 2014.

Georgia Tech, the highest-ranked team in the conference before the weekend, had won 12 consecutive ACC and home series dating to March, 2019.

Pitt scored 11 runs in the first two innings and was leading, 13-2, after four. Overall, Pitt collected 19 hits for the second time in the series, including home runs by Bryce Hulett, Sky Duff, Nico Popa and Kyle Hess. Duff, the leadoff hitter, finished the game with four hits.

Georgia Tech committed three errors, leading to Pitt’s nine unearned runs. Pitt’s 18 runs and 17 RBIs were the most against an ACC opponent and the most since scoring 26 on 26 RBIs against Maryland Eastern Shore on May 1, 2019.
