Three pitchers struck out 19 Florida State batters Friday night at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla., to lead Pitt to a 1-0 victory against the Seminoles, ranked No. 9 in the nation by Baseball America.

Starting pitcher Mitch Myers threw a no-hitter for six innings with a career-high 13 strikeouts. Dylan Lester relieved Myers to start the seventh and retired the side with two strikeouts. Jordan McCrum earned his first save, pitching out of jams in the last two innings.

Overall, Pitt (4-1) limited Florida State (2-2) to four hits in the ACC opener for both teams.

Pitt scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning on back-to-back doubles by Ron Washington Jr. and Bryce Hulett. Washington had three of Pitt’s five hits.

The victory was only Pitt’s third all-time against Florida State, two under coach Mike Bell, a former Seminoles assistant. It also was the Panthers’ first against a top-25/top-10 team since a 9-3 victory at No. 7 Georgia Tech in 2019.

The teams resume their series at 8 p.m. Saturday.
