Pennsylvania reports most new covid cases in over a week

Pennsylvania reported the most additional covid-19 cases in about 10 days on Friday, according to data from the state Department of Health.

There were 3,346 additional covid cases (2,722 confirmed, 624 probable), the most since 3,413 were reported Feb. 17.

Another 69 covid-related deaths were reported, marking the ninth consecutive day that report was under 100. There have been 10 days this month with 100+ deaths reported.

Total cases now in the state stand at 926,336 and the death toll is now 23,937.

Current hospitalizations for covid-19 in the state were 1,897 on Friday, down from 1,962 on Thursday. As of Friday, 403 patients with covid were in an intensive care unit and 218 were on a ventilator. The high for covid hospitalizations this month came Feb. 2 when 3,281 were hospitalized.

According to the DOH covid-19 vaccine dashboard, there have been 927,964 people partially vaccinated (having received only one dose) and 649,020 fully vaccinated (both doses). Pennsylvania began receiving covid vaccines in mid-December.

In Western Pennsylvania, Allegheny County reported the most additional cases with 412, the most in the county about a month. Westmoreland County had the second most with 98, the most in the county in about a week.
