The Penguins have assigned reserve defenseman Zach Trotman to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

Trotman, 30, opened the season on injured reserve after suffering a torn meniscus in his right knee injury during training camp that required surgery.

In the final year of a two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $700,000, Trotman has spent the past three seasons in the Penguins organization, primarily with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Last season, Trotman appeared in eight NHL games and did not record a point.
