Westmoreland County sees 4 additional covid deaths, cases steady
Westmoreland County on Wednesday added four new covid deaths, after two days with none, according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The total number of covid deaths in the county now stands at 652 since the pandemic started last March. There have been 47 reported deaths in February.
The county on Wednesday reported 47 additional covid cases — 18 confirmed, 29 probable. The total number of cases in Westmoreland County now stands at 26,040 with 18,524 confirmed and 7,516 probable since the first cases were reported.
There have been 84,736 people in the county who have tested negative for the virus.
The state Department of Health defines a probable case as one in which a patient has “a positive serology (antibody) test and either covid-19 symptoms or a high-risk exposure” to someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus.
February has only seen two days with reported covid cases above 100 (on Feb. 2 and 3). The county’s seven-day average is 75 cases and the county’s seven-day total cases of 524. These figures are slightly higher from last Wednesday when the seven-day average was 74 and seven-day total cases was 518.
According to the OpenData PA covid-19 website, 118 Westmoreland County residents are hospitalized for covid-19 (down three from Tuesday), seven of them are in intensive care units and eight of them are on ventilators.
