The Plum Republican Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Palmieri’s Restaurant, 951 Old Frankstown Road.

The guest speaker will be newly elected state Rep. Carrie Lewis DelRosso, a former Oakmont councilwoman.

The meeting is open to all registered Republicans and provides a forum to meet with candidates, discuss issues, exchange ideas and enjoy fellowship.

Kindergarten, 1st-grade registration open

Plum School District kindergarten and first grade registration opened Jan. 11.

Kindergarten registration is for children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1.

Church event planned

Monroeville Christian Church will host Oklahoma-­based Creation Truth Foundation from April 18-21 at its location at 3780 Northern Pike.

The Creation Truth Foundation will bring its Mobile Museum of Earth History, which features fossils of dinosaurs and other artifacts. The church will also host Ryan Cox for a sermon series called “Dinosaurs, Design and Destiny.”

He will preach at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. April 18. He will also preach at 7 p.m. April 19, 21 and 23.

Creation Truth Foundation will have books and videos available for purchase. The program is free.

The programs will be broadcast live on the church’s Facebook page and website.

Trib scholarships up for grabs

Trib Total Media is accepting applications for the Scholarship for Diversity in Media and the Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship.

The Scholarship for Diversity in Media is open to high school seniors who are culturally, ethnically or racially diverse and are planning to study journalism, communication or English writing at a four-year college or university.

The scholarship will include financial assistance of up to $7,500 per year for four years, a guaranteed annual internship with Trib Total Media and an offer for full-time employment upon graduation.

The Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship is offered to high school or college students attending — or planning to attend — a four-year college or university to study journalism, English writing or communication. The recipient will earn up to $30,000 in scholarship money awarded in annual installments of up to $7,500, an annual internship with Trib Total Media and an offer for full-time employment upon graduation.

The deadline to apply is Jan. 31.
