Delmont library plans 2021 events

After finishing 2020 with a new building, Delmont Public Library officials are gearing up for the first events of the new year — two outdoor walks exploring local nature spots.

A “First Day Walk” will take place from 1 to 3 p.m., Jan 1 at the Tomer Reserve, a 17-acre wooded property at the north end of Twin Oaks Lane in Murrysville, owned and managed by the Westmoreland Conservancy.

The library and conservancy will also partner for an “Owl Prowl” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Jan. 28 at the Morosini Reserve on Morosini Farm Court in Murrysville.

There is no cost for either event, but registration is required by calling 724-468-5329.

The Franklin Regional school board elected its officers for 2021 on Dec. 8.

Herb Yingling will continue as president, with Paul Scheinert as vice president and Scott Weinman as treasurer.

The board will meet next at 7:30 p.m., Jan. 11. At that same meeting, the board voted to continue holding virtual meetings, streamed via its YouTube channel, until further notice.
