The driver of a Port Authority of Allegheny County bus was not injured after colliding with a light pole in a Monroeville Mall parking lot the morning of Nov. 30.

Adam Brandolph, a Port Authority spokesman, said the situation is under investigation by Port Authority police. The bus driver was the only person on the bus at the time of the crash, Brandolph said.

“It appears the operator got off route and tried to correct by turning into the parking lot,” Brandolph said. “(The driver) didn’t see the light pole, as it was not illuminated. Therefore, no traffic citations will be issued.”

A Monroeville Mall spokesperson referred questions to Port Authority officials. Monroeville police Chief Doug Cole was not immediately available to comment.

Emergency officials responded to the collision just before 8 a.m. The bus and the pole were removed by 10 a.m. The pole’s concrete foundation remains cracked and surrounded by orange traffic cones.
