COLUMBUS — New coronavirus cases in Ohio continue to be reported by the thousands each day.
Sunday marked the 17th day in a row that cases surpassed 2,000 as the Ohio Department of Health reported that another 3,300 Ohioans have tested positive for covid-19.
That figure, which brings the statewide total to 219,000, falls short of Friday’s record single-day case total of 3,845. However, it represents 385 more cases than what was reported Saturday.
The spike also exceeds the three-week daily average of 2,393 new cases per day.
Two coronavirus-related deaths were reported in Ohio in the last 24 hours, well below the three-week average of 14 statewide deaths per day. As of Sunday, 5,303 Ohioans have been killed by the virus.
On Sunday, new hospitalizations and admissions to intensive care units also both lagged below the three-week daily averages.
In the past 24 hours, 88 people have been hospitalized with covid-19, a drop from the three-week daily average of 134. Meanwhile, 17 people were admitted into the ICU, four below the three-week average of 21 new ICU admissions a day.
That brings the total statewide hospitalizations up to 19,220 and intensive-care admissions to 3,876.
Franklin County continues to lead the state in cases with 34,517 as of Sunday. Its 6343 deaths, however, is second to Cuyahoga County, which has now recorded 686 deaths and 21,777 cases.
Cuyahoga County also leads the state in hospitalizations with 2,799. Franklin County, meanwhile, reported 2,291 cases as of Sunday.
Hamilton County has a total of 19,030 cases and 1,329 hospitalizations, but it’s 349 deaths are outpaced by Lucas County (Toledo,) which has recorded 378 deaths.
