Details are pending on the condition of a man who police said carjacked a car that hit a dumpster truck head-on on West Carson Street near the West End Circle about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

Authorities said the sedan was carjacked in Ingram and the carjacker, a man in his early 30s, was traveling inbound on West Carson when he struck the truck. A van was also involved in the accident.

Emergency workers freed the man from the sedan and took him to a Pittsburgh area hospital where he was in critical condition late Saturday morning.

The other drivers were not injured, according to a Pittsburgh Public Safety press release.

West Carson was closed in both directions for a time while crews cleared the scene and conducted an investigation.

Pittsburgh Public Safety’s collision investigation unit is investigating.

A request for an update and details on the accident were not immediately provided.
