Allegheny County on Thursday reported 149 new coronavirus cases with two new deaths.
The county has seen an average of 131 new daily cases over the past seven days, while adding 920 new cases in that time.
The county’s total number of cases stands at 15,449 with 10,695 recoveries. According to the Allegheny County Health Department’s covid-19 dashboard, over 214,000 individuals have been tested for the virus. The county has an overall 7% positive test result rate.
The county said the new deaths happened between Friday and Monday with one person in their 80s and the other in their 90s. One of the deaths was associated with a long-term care facility.
The new deaths bring the total number to 428 in the county. The Pennsylvania Department of Health puts Allegheny’s death total at 416, a discrepancy usually attributed to different reporting methods.
The county also reported that there were 37 new hospitalizations. According to the state covid-19 dashboard, 160 people in Allegheny County are hospitalized for the virus, with 24 patients on a ventilator.
Out of Thursday’s cases, the Allegheny County Health Department said 118 were confirmed and 31 were probable (25 of the probables are positive antigen tests) from 1,516 PCR tests.
New cases range in age from two to 93 years with a median age of 37 years old. The dates of positive tests ranged from Oct. 22-28.
The age groups of the newly reported cases — 57 males and 92 females — are:
- 0-4: 0
- 5-12: 4
- 13-18: 6
- 19-24: 31
- 25-49: 52
- 50-64: 33
- 65+: 23
Allegheny County Health Director Debra Bogen on Wednesday said that most covid-19 cases in the county are tied to individuals conducting everyday business.
“I’m asking you all to be careful, especially when you’re around people you know well, like family and friends,” Bogen said at a virtual news briefing. “That’s where we let our guard down.”
She said around 60 of the more than 800 cases reported last week were tied to private parties, large and small.
