The Pittsburgh Penguins continued to stock up on players for their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.
On Saturday, the team signed forward Frederick Gaudreau and goaltender Maxim Lagace to one-year, two-way contracts each worth $700,000.
Gaudreau, 27, appeared in 42 AHL games with the Milwaukee Admirals last season and scored 28 points (11 goals, 17 points). A native of Bromont, Quebec, Gaudreau (6-foot, 179 pounds) has spent the first six seasons of his professional career as a member of the Nashville Predators organization. In 84 career regular-season games with the Predators, he had eight points (three goals, five assists).
A member of the Predators’ team that lost the 2017 Stanley Cup Final to the Penguins, Gaudreau scored winning goals in Nashville’s only wins in that series, Games 3 and 4.
Lagace, 27, was one of the AHL’s top goaltenders in 2019-20, finishing second in wins with a 22-7-3 record in 33 games with the Providence Bruins. Additionally, Lagace had a 22-7-3 record along with a 2.37 goals-against average, a .919 save percentage and five shutouts, also the second-best total in the AHL last season.
A native of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Quebec, Lagace has spent most of his professional career in the AHL. His only NHL experience came in the form of 17 games with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2017-18 and 2018-19. In those contests, he has a 6-8-1 record, a 3.92 goals-against average and an .868 save percentage.
