Using the pick they acquired from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for goaltender Matt Murray, the Pittsburgh Penguins selected another goaltender.

With the 52nd overall selection in the second round, the Penguins chose Joel Blomqvist of Karpat in Finland’s Liiga.

During 2019-20, while playing for Karpat’s junior team in the SM-sarja league, Blomqvist, a native of Pietarsaari, Finland, appeared in 34 games, winning 26, and had a .931 save percentage.

This season, the 18-year-old Blomqvist (6-foot-2, 183 pounds) has played two games for Karpat’s team in the Liiga, Finland’s top-tier league, and has a 2-0-0 record along with a 1.50 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage.
