A Birthday Beep drive-by event had Shaler Area School Board member Suzanna Donahue feeling like a queen to celebrate her big 5-0.

The event doubled as a fundraiser for Donahue, who is battling bile duct cancer.

Friends and strangers lined up outside Burchfield Primary School, along with the high school band’s drum line and cheerleaders, to wish the longtime board member a memorable day.

There were dozens of balloons and a floral-decorated throne for Donahue, who also wore a paper crown to greet well-wishers.

She said previously that she felt lucky to live in a community that rallies behind those in need.

Friend Amy Benninger organized the event for Donahue, who first battled liver disease in 2017 and received a transplant from her husband, Scott, before doctors discovered cancer had spread to her lymph nodes and lungs.
