Sean Knapp didn’t stick around to celebrate his first victory at Westmoreland Golf Association’s Senior Amateur.
That’s because Knapp, one of the most accomplished amateurs in Western Pennsylvania, has an early tee time in Monday’s West Penn Amateur at Allegheny Country Club.
The Oakmont native and Hannastown Golf Club member added to his impressive resume by shooting a 1-under-par 107 to hold off a late charge by Latrobe’s Brandon Antus, who finished at even-par 108. Antus shot a 3-under 33 on the final nine holes of the 27-hole event Sunday at Latrobe Elks Golf Club.
Greensburg’s Bob Allshouse was third, shooting 110.
“I just love the competition and the challenge you get from some great golfers,” Knapp said. “Competition like this helps you mentally and physically for other events. This will help me for Monday’s event.”
Knapp shot a 1-over 73 on the first 18 holes and then a 2-under 34 on the final nine.
“He made some clutch putts on Nos. 4 and 6,” Allshouse said. “That’s what won him the tournament. He played great.”
Bryan Grejtak was fourth with a 112, edging Joe Corsi in a scorecard playoff.
“I love to compete against good players,” Knapp said. “Latrobe Elks is a tough course, and it gets you ready to play.”
Dick Holler won the 50-59 age division with a 117. Ed Elliott took the 60-69 group with a 118, and Mike McGuire won the 70 and over division at 116.
