Penguins forward Zach Aston-Reese undergoes shoulder surgery

The Penguins on Monday announced forward Zach Aston-Reese underwent surgery on his left shoulder.

He is expected to take six months to recover. The 2020-21 NHL season is aiming to open in early December.

The nature of the surgery, the extent of the ailment and the date of the procedure were not disclosed.

Aston-Reese, 26, appeared in four games this postseason and had one assist. During the regular season, he played in 57 games and scored 13 points (six goals, seven assists).

Earlier on Monday, the team announced forward Evgeni Malkin underwent surgery on his left elbow.
