The closure of a portion of Nadine Road in Penn Hills has been delayed for the second time in eight days, the Allegheny County Department of Public Works announced Friday.

Work along a stretch of Nadine near Lincoln Road will now begin Aug. 10 at 7 a.m. The delay is due to utility work in the area that has not been completed. The closure is expected to last at least two weeks.

The project was originally scheduled to begin July 28 but had been previously pushed back to Aug. 3. That delay also was because of the continuing utility work.

The restriction on Nadine Road is necessary for crews to build a support wall near Lincoln Road. After that wall is built, the ongoing work will require a second road closure, also expected to last two weeks, for construction of another support wall near Allegheny River Boulevard.

During both closures, traffic will be detoured using Allegheny River Boulevard, Sandy Creek Road, Verona Road and Lincoln Road. Residents living on Nadine Road will have access to their homes during the restrictions.

After completion of both support walls, Nadine Road will be paved between Allegheny River Boulevard and Lincoln Road, which will require short restrictions in work zones. Flaggers will be used to control traffic during that time.

The work, being done by Pittsburgh-based Northeast Paving, is part of an ongoing project that started in February. Officials said the project has included the removal of a pipe restricting water flow from a culvert, the relining of a stream, roadway repairs and the installation of signage.

The road closed indefinitely in July 2019, when rain caused a retaining wall to fall and part of the road to collapse. It reopened to traffic in November.
