Allegheny County Police are investigating the death of a Brentwood man who collapsed at Sandcastle Waterpark.

Police said county 911 dispatchers were notified just after 3:20 p.m. Sunday of an unresponsive man in a pool at the West Homestead water park. Employees attempted lifesaving measures on the man until paramedics arrived to take him to a hospital, where he later died, police said.

Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man Monday night as Raymond Aniuk, 37. Cause and manner of death have not been released.

Sandcastle spokesman Nick Paradise said Aniuk was attempting to leave the pool when he suffered a medical emergency and collapsed. The man was in the shallow end of the pool.

“The gentleman was coming out of the pool and had some sort of medical situation,” Paradise said Sunday. “He was almost entirely out of (the pool), and that’s when he fell.”

County homicide detectives said at this time no foul play is suspected.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
